Steve Brooks'
current work includes painting, digital collage, film, and writing. He received his BA in music composition and visual arts, and his MFA in painting at the University of California-San Diego in 1987. He studied with Allan Kaprow, Manny Farber and David Antin. Since then he has taught art history and art studio courses at several local colleges. He currently teaches private
piano lessons in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1978, Steve earned an AA degree in music from San Diego Mesa College, studied piano and music composition with Fred Zinos, and played percussion in various orchestras.
Mr. Brooks has shown his work in various San Diego galleries and locally at the University of Minnesota-Coffman Union and Intermedia. He has written and directed two short films: "Paper Tiger" and "Bedtime Stories". These films were shown at the Red Eye Theatre. For the past 10 years, he's been involved with raising his children, working, making digital collages and writing. Buns on Mars was a online magazine that Steve and his wife, Roberta Brooks, produced from 2000 to 2003. This web site featured art, art criticism, narrative, etc and were written through personas: Chef Steel, So Cal Punk, et.al. The art work titled Ocean from Buns on Mars was featured on mn artists on December 5th and 6th, 2002. Recently, Steve has created a companion journal featuring his views on rock music, and published a book, available on amazon: How I met Van and Numan Future, Present and Past.
